Picture it: 1997, autumn, New York City. Actors Equity (the actors union) has decided to only allow union actors to audition for union shows (including Broadway shows). Im not a union actor. What do I do? I decide to join the union, FAST! Story Salad 10 was a fun and educational childrens musical created by Maximillion Productions that toured theaters, school auditoriums, and libraries throughout the US. Four actors, our musical director, and our stage manager loaded our set into two vans and drove away determined to expand the young minds of America . . . and earn our Equity cards! The show consisted of 8 short musical segments, each retelling a popular childrens story (Clifford the Big Red Dog, Amelia Bedelia, and others). We four actors raced back and forth across the stage for just under an hour, playing kajillions of different characters in each of the stories. I stayed with the tour for six months (I even got to perform in my hometown for my birthday!), and then returned to NYC to get back in the theatre scene.
