THE NEW YORKERS

Role: Reuben's Waiter

Production Info: July 13-August 10, 1996 @ Seaside Music Theater
Director: Anthony Stimac
Choreographer: Lois Englund
Musical Director: Milton Granger

This Seaside production was special in that it was the “Premiere Revival” of a long-lost show. Cole Porter's The New Yorkers opened on Broadway right before the stock market crash of the late 1920s, and then quickly closed. Oddly enough, no complete manuscripts of the show survived, so no revivals were ever mounted and no production rights were ever released. Tony Stimac, of NYC’s Music Theater Works, re-created the script from a number of different sources, inserted some extra Cole Porter songs, and re-mounted the show with the help of Lois Englund's spunky choreography. I was in the ensemble for most of the show, although I had a classic bit part during a scene at the famous “Reuben's” Restaurant. Only two lines, but I milked a laugh out of them! I loved singing along with all the great tunes, including “Take Me Back To Manhattan,” “Let's Do It,” “Just One of Those Things,” “Love for Sale,” and “I've Got You Under My Skin.”
