IOLANTHE
Role: Ensemble
Production Info: June 22-July 22, 1995 @ Seaside Music Theater
Director: Julia Davidson
Choreographer: Chuck Hoenes
Musical Director: Tippen DavidsonIolanthe is probably the most politically scathing operetta composed by Gilbert and Sullivan. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of 19th century Parliamentary procedure, I can honestly say that the Seaside production of this show was probably one of the most beautiful ever to grace a stage. The costumes were so finely detailed, down to the last satin ribbon, and the sets looked as if they'd been painted by Monet. The show itself . . . well . . . it's an operetta: a group of fairies is flitting about the woods trying to cause trouble for the British Lords. Which leads to lots of . . . singing? Anyway, I was proud to be part of such a beautiful show, and it was a great opportunity to give my voice (and my brain) a workout. Talk about some tongue twisters!
