BABES IN TOYLAND
Role: Roderigo
Production: Nov. 29, 2003 @ Stamford Center for the Arts (CT)
Music: Victor Herbert
Directed and Adapted by: Kevin Connors
Conductor/Musical Director: Stan WietrzychowskiThis production, my FIFTH journey into the world of Toyland, ended with a bang. Well, more like a blizzard! This new contemporary adaptation of the Victor Herbert classic was scheduled to play two consecutive Saturdays at the Rich Forum in Stamford, Connecticut. However, the first big snowstorm of the 2003 winter season took place on our final day of shows, which were subsequently cancelled. Unfortunately for the little kiddies who missed it, this particular production was a lot of fun, with an added swing-time tap number and some great Disney-style arrangements of the old operetta standards!

For a brief time during the 2003 holiday season, The Rich Forum in beautiful downtown Stamford, Connecticut was home to TOYLAND.
Our director, bookwriter, and co-lyricist, the always-congenial Kevin Connors.
Scary Scary SCARY! This year, the make-up and costume for crazy henchman Roderigo was even more dramatic. I freaked myself out just looking in the mirror!
Howard Pinhasik did a wonderful job bringing consummate-baddie Silas Barnaby to life!
My partner in crime: Stephen Valahovic as goofball-henchman Gonzorgo.
The leading man in our story and the hero of Toyland: Eric Briarley as Jack.
Amanda Ryan Paige takes a moment in the dressing room to get her contrary pout going before she steps onstage as Contrary Mary.
A sweet backstage hug for former classmates Casey Gensler (Peter Pumpkin Eater), Susan Saladino (Bo Peep) and Derek Martin (Little Boy Blue).
Briana Davis made a quick costume change during the intermission to open Act Two as one of the Master Toymakers favorite dolls, Columbine.
Pops and his apprentice Grumio (played by DAmbrose Boyd and Paul Fiteni, respectively).
For the 2003 production, Mary Jo Duffy reprised her roles as Red Riding Hood and the mystical Fairy Queen.
Rob McCaffrey as Bobby Shaftoe and Todd Caporizzo as Humpty Dumpty.
New for the 2003 production was a swing-time melody for the animals and trees of The Creepy Forest.
Boy, that Amanda Ryan Paige sure does make one slinky little fox!
Goodbye and Happy Holidays, Roderigo-style!
