BABES IN TOYLAND
Role: Roderigo
Production Info: October 18, 2003 @ Avery Fisher, Lincoln Center
Conductor: Dino Anagnost
Director: Peter Flynn
Choreographer: Devanand JankiIn the fall of 2003, I returned once again to beautiful Lincoln Center to reprise the role of Roderigo in Little Orchestra Societys 100th Anniversary production of Babes In Toyland! This centennial celebration overflowed with all of the familiar Victor Herbert melodies and featured Mother Goose, Little Bo Peep, Tom Tom the Pipers Son and more nursery rhyme favorites in an exciting classical adventure. Never one to pass up an opportunity to work with Peter Flynn and Dev Janki, I enjoyed adding new moments to a show Id performed twice before. This particular year, the toy-soldier marching band was outrageously wonderful, filling Avery Fisher Hall to the brim with twirling flags, blaring trumpets, and beating drums!

This view of Lincoln Center Plaza from my dressing room window was pretty cool, even if I only got to experience it for one day!
Our choreographic team (Dev Janki and Nadita Shenoy) was out-of-this world. Here they are putting us through our paces on the morning of our show.
Dev Janki takes his work seriously, but he knows how to have a good time, too.
Here I am backstage with Gonzorgo (Anthony Gomez). What a couple of goons, right?
It takes a lot of hard work to be beautiful! Bo Peep (Rachel Mahloch) takes some time backstage to get ready for her big entrance.
Tom, Tom, the Pipers Son (Brandon Wood) kicks back on a dressing room couch before showtime.
Kooky meanie Silas Barnaby (Jay Strauss) flashes a grin as he prepares his diabolical scheme to take over Toyland.
Anthony Gomez backstage as Gonzorgo: not a bad guy, just misunderstood!
Amanda Ryan Paige (Miss Muffet) demonstrates the crazy atmosphere present at Avery Fisher Hall as we make our last minute preparations.
Wee Willie Winkie (Raymond Jordan) and Jack Be Nimble (Damian Keenan) take a moment to say hello before showtime.
Our cute Jill (Mary Ann Hu) in her pail-toting finery.
Little Boy Blue (Tommy Labanaris) and Ladybug (Fabiola Reis) are all smiles.
It may be tough to perform early in the morning, but the kids make it all worthwhile. These Toyland citizens show their appreciation and excitement onstage before the show.
A super-cute Miss Muffett (Amanda Ryan Paige) curtsies goodbye after our whirlwind tour of Toyland.
