During my senior year of college, I was still waffling between graduate research in chemistry and a career in theatre. And then Good News! came along. In this crazy football musical, I played Sylvester, a reporter for the school newspaper who happens to be a BIG NERD. There wasn't much singing for me to do in this show, but the scenework was some pretty funny stuff! Sylvester was one of those goofy specialty roles . . . come onstage, drop a funny line, and leave while the audience is still laughing. It was great. My family came to see the production, and my mom's reaction to the show was exactly what I needed to hear: I can see how much fun you're having up there, and if you want to give this theatre thing a try, I support you! And that was that. I decided to defer my acceptance to the PhD program at Rutgers (whoops . . . I guess I never got back to them!) and head off to the Florida Theatre Conference to land a summer stock job. And the rest is history!
