THE GOLDEN APPLE
Role: Ensemble
Production Info: Nov. 1992 on the MainStage, FSU
Director: John Degen
Choreographer: Jack Clark
Musical Director: Kevin FentonHmmm . . . The Golden Apple . . . this show is where it all began. I started my chemistry studies at Florida State University in the Fall of 1992 with the intention of keeping my nose to the grindstone. No more theatre stuff and just the minimum number of classes at the music school to keep my extra scholarship. Well, between some heavy recruiting on the part of the theatre school and my previous love of performing, I ended up in the ensemble of The Golden Apple (despite my crazy class schedule). This rarely-performed show is an adaptation of Homer's Odyssey, which tells the tale of the hero Ulysses and the adventures that occur during his trip home from war. In this version, however, the action takes place in Washington State circa 1900 instead of ancient Greece, and the big plot twist occurs at a cake-baking contest. The music in this show is really tough, and we chorus members got quite a workout! But it was a great introduction to the FSU theatre school, and the production itself was really spectacular.
