Production Info: Fall 1993 at Ruby Diamond Auditorium, FSU
Director: Lincoln Clark

In my efforts to stay focused in my studies, I decided to abandon theatre during my sophomore year of college and stick to my majors: chemistry and vocal music. So I auditioned for the ensemble of La Boheme as an attempt to redirect my creative energy in a more “proper” direction. Opera was a new art form to me — I had never even watched one on PBS — so I decided to give it a try. It was a really beautiful production, right down to the falling snow in Act Three, and the singing was TREMENDOUS. Those perfectly placed voices just sailed out into the auditorium. For some reason, though, I never really enjoyed it as much as a good old-fashioned musical. So, I chalked it up to experience and decided to head back to “theatre-land.” Those songs are still in the back of my brain somewhere, though. I catch myself humming the choruses in the shower every now and then . . . “Ecco Parpignol, Parpignol, Parpignol!”
